A Big Data Lens on the Elections

Electoral issues + social curation = ELECURATOR

This project will track the major issues engaging both candidates and voters in the 2020 election cycle. We’ll apply a technique known as social curation to multiple sources of data ranging from traditional political polls and debate transcripts to political advertising and social media dialogue.

Research Questions

The project will explore five primary research questions:

  1. Description: How are Americans talking about politics online?

  2. Alignment: Are the issues dominating social media important to the typical American voter?

  3. Representation: How are the candidates talking about these issues?

  4. Responsiveness: How are voters and candidates responding to each other over the course of the campaign?

  5. Predictability: Can we use online measures to improve predictive models of various election outcomes?
